Crinum amoenum

Crinum amoenum is a native of India where it grows along stream banks.   It was first described by Roxburgh (1807).   Crinum Amoenum is a member of the subgenus crinum.

Bulbs from three sources were acquired in 2006. The two largest bulbs from one source bloomed in 2007. Two of three bulbs from another source bloomed in 2007. One small offset has been observed. Seeds have been produced in this garden.

The flowers bloom at the same time so this crinum species flowering time is short lived. One cultivar has buds that open at the same time. Another cultivar opened buds over two days.

This crinum variety should be planted with 2/3 of the bulb above ground.

This crinum is hardy in Zone 8B in a garden setting.
