Crinum oliganthum (Urban)

Crinum oliganthum was described by Urban in Rep. Spec. Nov. Reg. Veg. Fas. 15: 100, 1919.   Of Carribbean origin, this crinum is the smallest, with mature bulbs just over 2.5cm (1").   While the plant is small, the flower is surprisingly large.

This cultivar can be propogated from seed or offsets that form on spreading risomes.   Growth of offsets is similiar to Crinum americanum/erubescens.   Both seeds and offsets have been produced in it's current location.

The small bulb size versus the flower size of this crinum cultivar is striking and would be an asset to any garden.

This crinum is hardy in Zone 8B in a garden setting but also makes makes a striking container plant.
