Crinum x digweedii 1 (Grex)

Crinum x digweedii (Grex) is a scabrum x americanum/erubescens hybrid.   Many cultivars of this hybrid have been developed.

The bulbs of this cultivar are smaller than other hybrids, reaching blooming size at just over two inches.   The cultivar is tender to frost but has survived nights to 18 degrees F in this garden.   This bulb should be hardy in a garden setting through Zone 8 and other zones with mulching.

This hybrid was obtained in 2004.   It came from very old yard growth of an elderly couple near the Texas-Louisana border.

The 2008 growing year was unusual, in that less than half of the normal rainfall fell.   Growing results were tremendous as the bulbs exploded with growth.   Scape heights and foliage length, in some cultivars, increased dramatically.

This cultivar produces prolific offsets, but has produced no seed.
